Automated Checker Test Run
« on: Mar 28 07 »

We're going to do a test run with the Automated Checker today, so you should receive an email with a list of sites that you own that appear to be failing the ring code checks.

In the same email you'll also receive a report of any sites in rings that you own that also appear to fail the ring code checks. Quite a few of these appear to have the old ring code in them, so you may get a list with lots of sites in it.

If you hover over a
link in a nav bar that's using the the old code, you'll see something like this:

http://webringo.com/cgi-bin/ringlink/list.pl?ringid=dccomics;siteid=observatory

Notice the part in red- that indicates the old ring code is being used. Anything with a ".pl" in it indicates that it's using old code.

We've also seen some nav bars using some of the old code AND some of the new code. If this is the case, the code must be fixed. Please inform the Site Owner to correct it.

Finally, it's possible  that you might receive a notification for a site that isn't yours, or you may
have valid code on a page but still see a "Failed" report on it- if this is the case, please let us know!

I received an email about a site in a Wrestling webring.  I do not manage the wrestling webring.  I have not received any emails about rings I do manage, yet.  I have replied to the email I received but thought I'd mention it here just in case it doesn't get through.

My user login is:  Sarah [1001]

Thanks,
Sarah

Yep, this was our screwup, and should be fixed now. One little missing "=" symbol was all it took to send everyone an email with rings they never heard of, lol. We'll do another test run tonight or tomorrow and the email you get should be correct this time.

How would you like us to handle conflicts?

For example, reporting sites that are not in our rings.  That may be a database issue?

Or the auto-checker reporting sites as having nav bar problems but if we run the checker manually, it shows OK.

I have both conditions.

That problem should be fixed now. However, if you're still seeing rings reported (in later testing runs) that aren't yours, let us know.

We're looking into this now- it may be that the failure reports were from an earlier analyzer run where things might have been reported incorrectly. The 3rd test run should contain current, valid site tests and we'll verify that before we do another automated test cycle.  For now, if the manual checker shows the site is okay, it's probably fine.
