(1) Global system checker.
Under the old system we could have the system checker test ALL active or non-active sites. The result would be a list of sites that have proper nav bar code installed.
I know that the checker may still need some work but this gave us the ability to single-out those sites with problems so we could work with the site author to fix problems, or identify sites that needed to be removed from the ring, or new sites in compliance with (or not) installation of the nav bar code. At present it seems we have to check each site individually. That can get pretty time consuming as rings increase in size.
(2) Generate site contact e-mail addresses.
Under the old system it was possible to generate the contact address for all sites in a ring. We could then exposrt that list to e-mail ring site members with announcements or other news.
Ideally you will be able to generate them as follows
a) All active sites b) All inactive sites c) All sites containing [ text string ] d) All sites under deactivation/suspension (is this different from 'b'?) e) All sites pending review/activation.

... continuing ...
(3) Get Nav Bar code for ring site
Allow managers to generate nav bar code for each ring member site from the management screen. This will allow us to generate a site's nav bar code and allow us to e-mail that code to someone that may have issues installing it. ----------
NOTE:- I have recently identified a bug with Prodigy's web-based page creation tool. It munges the nav bar code when you try to install it. This is not a Webringo problem, but one with Prodigy's ancient page creation tool. My site member gave me their user name and password and I actually had to manually type in the nav bar code to make it work. FYI to Admin.

Once the ring-checker code is done we'll be running it through an automated job on all the sites on a nightly basis, and you'll get a report of any sites that didn't pass.

Well....we thought about this. Right now you can email your ring members, and you can select "all members" or just "active members". We're a little hesitant about providing email address extracts, as some people may want to keep their email address private, but we probably will do this.

I should like the "search" to remain on the ring which you have selected: I.E. the URL for the ring should have ' target="_blank" ' ending the URL.
If that is the case, search would be easier, especially if you do search exceeding one height of the window! (I.e: the whole rings!) Peter Bendall

Do you mean you want it to open a new window? (That's what "_blank" will normally do.)

We're going to be adding pagination to the Search results as soon as we can. That should help a bit.

A breadcrumb system (Ex. You are here: Home Directory > Arts & Culture > Painting)
Something like this would be especially good for navigation the ring directory. Also, it would be nice to have when viewing a particular ring because then you could go to one of the categories it's in to see if you're interested in any other rings.

I myself am going to be heading back to Cambodia in about a week but one of the other guys will be working through the list of stuff that still needs to be done.

How about when you're looking at a ring, you can see who it's owned by? And then you could also view the person's profile and the rings that they own (and maybe the sites too).

Another good idea. I'll add it to the list of things to add. Thanks!

1024 characters is a tad slim if you are trying to give step by step instructions to fix something. The address extract allowed us to send detailed messages.

On Site Management Screen -
Make the site name or ID number a clickable link in a new window. That way if we run a test we can also click on the site to look at it.
At present you can do certain things but have to go to the ring index page to view a member site.
Just a thought.

There should be a way to include the webring homepage on the html code that gets copied onto each website...people tend to be so visual and I think this would increase the chances of someone joining a particular webring....thats all....Ana
