Feature? Ring Managersand nav bar code
« on: Jan 13 07 »

Will ring managers eventually be able to generate nav bar code themselves for their member sites?

At present that feature is not there.  There is a work around.

Access your own ring sites and generate a nav bar code for any of your sites and a selected ring.  After the code pops up, go to the URL address bar in your browser and change the site ID number and refresh.  This will then generate the nav bar code for that site and for the ring selected.

You can print a list of ring sites from your ring management screen that has your listing of sites and their numbers as a manual aid.

Of course, once you have one copy, you could just as easily manually edit the code in a text editor and just change the site ID number.

Might this also be a bit of a security glitch?  Though I don't see it as such.  In theory, anyone could generate nav bar code by just knowing th ering ID and the site ID I guess.

Part 2- Is this the final appearance the nav bar will have, or will we eventually be able to customize the look as was initially the case?

Thanks for all your efforts.

I would prefer to use something like what webring is doing. You change your nav code and it will automatically be reflected on all member sites.

I just noticed, there isn't anywhere we can do up our navigation code like before.... It is up to member's ability to do it...

Bring back that control for navigation code please.

Yes, this is something that will be added (not sure when, but it will be added).

They could, but they won't really be in the ring since the ring/site list is held on the site in the database. They can't add themselves to that.

We're going to work up a customization panel for nav bar code, but it's lower down on the list of things to do. It's coming, but there are a few other things that have to be completed first. Eventually you'll be able to alter the look, shape, colors, etc.

I hope the nav code be fix up soon because I don't quite like a ring using my giant sized logo picture as default.

This is very easy to fix; if you want to post your navbar code here I'll be glad to modify it for you so you can start using it. The control panel for customizing nav code is in production, but it'll be a little while in coming.

UPDATE: The beta version of the Nav Code Customizer is ready and we'll be posting a link to it within a day or so.
