"I don't know how that might go over with webring support"

Lol, I doubt the admins here could care less what the owners of Webring think. That's Webring's problem, you know? They had their chance and they blew it.

Webring screwed up royally by trying to make people pay for the rings their members spent years building. Don't forget that all of that work benefitted Webring enormously and made them quite a bit of money. I have absolutely no sympathy for the greedy weasels at Webring, none at all. And now a new age dawns.

Webring's site redesign was horrible, amatuerish, and clunky. This place looks a whole lot nicer in my opinion and it took them what, a week or two to put it together?

If I had anything to do with Webring I'd be flat-out embarassed. What Webring did was slap a cheesy 1990's design over the top of their existing site and then they used that to try and justify charging everyone for the privilege of helping them make even more money. There were virtually no new features, the Webring system is still as slow as molasses, and their forum is lame and outdated. The forum here alone outclasses Webring's efforts by light years. Is there any reason Webring couldn't have done something like this? No, but they didn't.

Webring, are you listening? Probably not, just like you never listened before. I've seen three user requests for features here and each one of them was added within a day or so. If nothing else the admins here are responsive and are actually listening to what people want. I'm impressed with what's been done in the space of a couple of weeks and my hat is off to whoever is running this place. Good job guys!

So you want it to show the name of the ring (the title) instead of the ID, is that correct?

Yes. That would be my preference. But I am not sure about other members.

I happy to announce that this was fairly easy to do, and it's been done.   Now when people go to join a ring they'll see the actual ring title in the page instead of the ring id. For the moment this is only true when they click the "Join Ring" link from the "ring's list of sites" page, but we hope to extens it to the other links as well.

Thanks for this suggestion!

UPDATE: This has been added to the main "Join Ring" lsiting as well. All done.

Heh, I was referring to the fact that any post advertising alternate systems outright might be deleted, or the poster's account might be affected in the form of ring or membership deletions. Not that any of us really care anymore :)

We're interested in what the people at Webring think, but whatever it is it's not going to make much of a difference in what we do. I'd guess we have a pretty good idea of what they think, and we're probably not at the top of their Chirtmas card list. They're welcome to think whatever they like about us but in the end it's not going to affect anything we do. We have no axe to grind with them.

They had their chance and they blew it.

We view what they did (starting to charge for rings) as a mistake, but everyone makes mistakes. I don't know how "in touch" the owners of Webring were (are) with their community, but it seems like there was some disconnect. I don't know, I'm not privy to what goes on at Webring. I can only speak for the team we have here. We're doing our best to listen to what people say, what they want, and what they think. If you want to post some criticism of what we're doing here, by all means, feel free. If you want to give us a pat on the back or a kick in the pants, please do. We really do want to know what people think and what they want.

Personally, I think if Webring started censoring posts or reacting in that way that it would be a big mistake on their part. But we don't run their site so it's not up to us to tell what to do.

I don't know how that might go over with webring support (not sure whether or not the reports of them deleting posts or not are true, as I haven't had any of mine deleted), but I've been sending out e-mails to all of the members of my various rings notifying them that there are alternative systems to webring, though I haven't gotten any direct responses yet.

Siobhan, do post in this thread.

I am hoping to to discuss webring here. My view on censoring posted.

Hello all,

I'm a new member here. I have a couple rings over at Webring (greedy buggers) and I'm now disgusted with what they're doing. A member of one of my rings referred me here and I must say, I am very pleased with what I'm seeing so far. Not only do you have a much better design (by far the best of any ring management site), but you actually care about your members! I hope that never ever changes.

I'm definitely going to encourage all my members to sign up here. And if you ever need any help, I'd be happy to oblige. I'm a budding web designer and programmer and I'm on the net all the time so I could certainly devote time to moderating or whatever!

I do have one feature request. The one thing that Webring is doing right is having one username to manage all your rings and ring memberships. I know that it's not an easy thing to do but I know it would certainly be appreciated (at least by me anyways).

BTW, when you sign up for the forum, the Terms start off with "You agree, through your use of the DiscoverSeattle forum..." Is it suppose to say that?

Yes, this is how the system will function when we get it converted to a database-driven application.  It's comin'.

Lol., doh! Yes, this text was borrowed from another one of our other sites, the DiscoverSeattle.net web site. Thanks for catching that.

Yay more people! Welcome!

I took a look at your site and saw the new rings that were added to the list, and I saw that you have a number of wolf related rings. Are you still in the process of customizing them? If so, would you let me know when you are ready to accept new members? I have a wolf related ring over at Webring that I don't plan on migrating myself (since I personally think it's a good idea to keep the number of duplicated rings down), but I'll happily send a message to my ring telling people to join yours :D

This login menu doesn't seems to work. After I entered ID and password, it will prompt a incorrect password and must enter again from the main screen.

host logo?

Will webringo be able hosting our logos? I find it wierd to host the logo else where. So far I am not including logos into the web code to keep it simple.
