How do I add other people's sites?
« on: January 03, 2020, 07:28:22 AM »
Hi all, sorry for the dumb question but I'm new to this. I've created my ringhere on WebRingo and added my own site, but how do I add other people's? Do they need to have a WebRingo account, or is there a simpler way? I have a couple of people who've been waiting to join once I figure out what I'm doing, but I don't think strangers would bother creating an account to join.

Basically, you go to their ring and ask or invite them to join. You can find a full walk-through on doing this here:

So I can't add sites that don't have a WebRingo account connected to them?

Well....that's kind of the whole point of a webring. That's how they work.

I've been trying to build a webring based on what I've found on other people's sites, as well as old sites I found through archive.org, and most of them have their own sign up page and the code for the ring on their own site. One ring only requires you to put the code on your site and then click through the ring before it automatically updates the sitelist. Can I use Webringo this way? Or are these things some kind of specialised code I'd have to figure out from scratch?

Every webring site has its own code format; it's unlikely that code from Webring (for example) would work here or vice versa.

In short, people need to 1) create a ring account and 2) add sites to their site list. Other users can then add those sites to their ring or request another ring owner (lie you) add them to their ring.

So, if you find a ring that you want to add any of your sites to, you request the owner of the other ring to admit your site to their ring. If another site owner wants to be included in your ring, they'd send you a request to join your ring, which you would then approve or decline.
